Convoy of truckers slow traffic on Highway 99 in protest over ELD mandate

A convoy of truckers took to Highway 99 on Friday afternoon as part of a protest against the upcoming ELD mandate.

The moving protest, which was part of the larger, nationwide protest against the upcoming Electronic Logging Device mandate, began around 12:45 p.m. on October 6th in Yuba City, California, 40 miles north of Sacramento.

According to local KCRA news, the line of trucks headed south on Highway 99, driving slowly — and at points, completely stopping on the road. The average speed of the convoy was reported to be around 5 miles-per-hour.

California Highway Patrol Officers say they made several attempts in getting the rolling blockade to move over and allow for traffic to pass but were unsuccessful as the convoy moved into downtown Sacramento.

The convoy then entered Interstate 5 and continued back onto Highway 99, heading for Fresno, California.

The CHP released the following statement on the moving protest:

“A large group of big rig drivers are currently on I-5 south of the Sacramento area headed towards Fresno, with what’s being called a ‘rolling protest.’ Although the CHP supports the right to assemble and or protest, doing so in a manner that blocks traffic, slows the response of emergency vehicles, and people traveling throughout the State, is against the law. The CHP is monitoring the situation and taking appropriate enforcement action when necessary.”

Take a look at the footage of the convoy below.
